At Umbrellas on the Beach, deadlines can push people to the extremes. Faced with a looming deadline, Michele found herself locked out of the office. Desperate for a way in, she searched the sides of the office, inspecting windows and doors for the best entry. She soon found her best option, the back window, fifteen feet off the ground. She pulled out a ladder and while wearing a skirt, climbed to the top. Quickly, she realized the window wasn’t the best shape to simply slide through. Michele then climbed down, found a hammer and a knife, changed into jeans, and tried again. Once teetering at the top of the ladder, she wedged the screen out and dove in the window. Suddenly she found herself stuck with legs dangling out the window. Fortunately, with one quick hip gyration, she fell onto the couch inside the office.

Summer at the Beach

Advertising agencies are responsible for a wide variety of projects. Umbrellas on the Beach creates interactive, online brochures; websites, videos; meeting production; and branding and identity, as well as anything else falling under the umbrella of marketing. Clients range from start-up businesses to Fortune 500 companies. One of my favorite projects I worked on was an interactive, online booklet for an incentive trip to Bora Bora. Before working on the project, I had little knowledge of Bora Bora and its beautiful beaches and black pearls. I researched while I employed my creative writing skills by writing features on different parts of the Island. Advertising agencies even play the part of business executive, encouraging employees to work hard so they can achieve the trip to the incredible Bora Bora.

A Day at the Beach

Working at Umbrellas on the Beach is not a breezy, summer vacation. There are newsletters to write, graphics to dream up, PDFs to proof. Deadlines rule the schedule and there is always work to be done. Each day is a learning experience. As an intern, I have learned ways to proof more efficiently, find more in-depth research, and write for a professional audience. Though tasks can be challenging, they have all been enjoyable. If one is passionate about her work, it does not feel like work at all. A day at Umbrellas on the Beach is filled with adventure!
